Kingaroy Sportfishing Club inc.
The Kingaroy Sportfishing Club has been established for many years and is affiliated with the Australian National Sportfishing Association (ANSA). The club has a membership of over 30 people and is a socially oriented family fishing club. The club is run by a management committee, which meets at least once a month in one of the service clubhouses in Pound St Kingaroy. New members and visitors are always welcome at our meetings. The best part is reading the newsletters from other clubs all over the state. From these you can see what the other clubs are up to and what fish are biting where.

The Kingaroy Sportfishing Club conducts regular internal fishing competitions and outings. We host an annual interclub fishing competition called “The Bash" each year. This is always a fun weekend and is well attended by us and visiting clubs. It is the premier freshwater ANSA event of the year held in the middle of the burgeoning Queensland impoundment fishery. Throughout the year other clubs hold interclub competitions as well. We try to attend as many of these as we can for a change of scenery and access to fish we don't usually catch. We also conduct a freshwater tournament, the Bjelke-Petersen Dam “Golden Lure” tournament in November when the water levels allow us.
Our club fishes all aspects of Sportfishing, from Freshwater rivers and impoundments, to Estuarine and Blue Water Sport and Game fishing. Our members are also active in the Sportfish Tagging Programme conducted by ANSA (Qld). Tagging and the learning of fishing ethics such as sustainable fishing practices, environmental awareness, being up to date with fisheries legislation, caring for your catch and catch and release fishing are the main thrusts of ANSA and sportfishing these days.
Outings and trips conducted by the Kingaroy Sportfishing Club are always well attended and are conducted in a friendly and social manner. New members can be assured that our members are only too willing to help beginners get established in the field of sportfishing. |
