Sport, Integrity and Conservation
The underlying spirit of angling is that the skill of the angler is pitted against the instinct
and strength of the fish and that the latter is entitled to an even chance for its life.

Motions for this year's SWCM
25 Jul 2011
There has only been one Motion received as of today's date for this year's State Wide Council Meeting to be held at Yeppoon on Saturday 20th August 2011, and it's a biggy! The State Executive have taken on task of looking at the dwindling numbers participating in the State Championships in a bid to revitalise this once prestigious event, and to this end have come up with some possible rule changes to both simplify and encourage participation. The main changes, if successful, would be to a Length Based competition with a simplified point scoring system, and the ability to now bring in digital images of fish caught and released, but retaining the opportunity for those who wish to bring their fish in to do so, with no penalty for gutted and gilled fish. Details of the Motion can be found here, and the detailed State Championship Rules (Amended) with changes highlighted in pink, can be found here.

SEQ Sportfishing Challenge
10 Jun 2011
The SEQ Sportfishing Challenge follows on from a long tradition of Interclub competitions run by the Brisbane Sportfishing Club. The event is set out to be a fun event that is challenging to all levels of fishing. The main focus of the event is to chase a number of different species on Lure or Fly. It is a major step away from traditional ANSA competitions and is based on fork length and is not tied to line class. We have been lucky enough to gain sponsorship from a number of business, and these prizes will be shared around between all competitors, not just the winners. For more details please download a copy of the rules, flyer or nomination form, or call the President, Darryl Lund on 0417 750 097

State Wide Conference and Meeting Forms available online now
30 May 2011
The Forms and Invitations for this year's State Wide Conference and Meeting are now available for download from this website. All Secretaries will receive the information as an email at some stage today, with an update of the Conference Timetable being issued as confirmations are made. If you are a Club Secretary, and you have not received this email by Wednesday 1 June 2011, please contact Geoff Hodge here
Please note that although the Timetable is very light on at this stage, this will change quickly over the next few weeks as more and more speakers confirm their attendance. The theme for the year was to be Families, but with all the recent natural disasters occuring throughout Queensland and Australia, it was felt that Survival had to be a hot topic! We are hoping to have one of the speakers as Paul Reis from the Mater Organisation who will speak on Prostate Cancer, as well as Alf Hogan, Mike Cappo, and Michael Hutchinson, who will hopefully be doing a presentation on his Jungle Perch breeding program.
Please stay tuned as confirmations come in....

Terrible Creek Competition Cancelled
18 Apr 2011
Due to the recent prolonged wet season the sportfishing competition to be held at Terrible Creek on the May Day long weekend will be cancelled. The cancellation is due to the area surronding the camping grounds and the accesses into the river not having dried out sufficiently to allow anglers to move around safely. The river crossing at Strathmore Station is still impassable and due to the large amount of sand build up at the bridge very little rain is required to make the crossing impassable. We hope we have not inconvenienced your plans too much and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Lake Borumba Tagalong set to take off this weekend
11 Apr 2011
This weekend will possibly see in excess of 50 ANSA members and families fishing the waters of Lake Borumba, near Imbil. This has been the result of efforts by Darryl Lindeman of the Bundy Sportfishing Club to get a friendly Tagalong happening, where other clubs are invited to attend. There will be a bbq on Friday night with a couple of guest speakers talking about the dam and its fishing quirks, as well as the owner of the local tackle shop bringing along some great bargains and last minute supplies for those who don't have EVERYTHING in their tacklebox. For those who may still feel like attending at this late stage, go for it! There is still some camping and accomodation left at he Lake Borumba Deer Park, and you can contact them on 07 5484 5196.

I posted in this news section Feb 20 that the Cardwell Barra Bonanza was a bit up in the air because our accommodation houses had copped a beating in the cyclone. It will be the same format as before ie. Cardwell Barra Bonanza Postponed
20 Feb 2011
G'Day All - Finally got back on the net
The Cardwell Barra Bonanza that was supposed to be held a couple of weeks ago was sort of blown about by a little wind called Yasi.
The update is that we had a group get together the other night and it seems our sponsers are keen as mustard to see the Bonanza go ahead. The problem we have is there isn't enough accommodation in Cardwell for our competitors at the moment.
They are working flat out to get their businesses up and running ASAP and will welcome the influx of visitors to the town. Power is back on in some places and building repairs will start soon.
At this stage we are hoping for a date towards the end of March.
I will let you know as soon as I know.

If you live in the area of Queensland where your rivers flow to the Gulf of Carpentaria or if you are planning a trip to these areas soon then you can fish the Gulf waters for Barramundi as from midday 26th. That's wednesday before you go checking. Good Luck but if you live on the East Coast then you better wait till next Tuesday 1st Feb at midday before you target our iconic species. After this very wet season there should be plenty around. Many have been observed around snags, pilons and the like so there should be plenty around in your area waiting for you when the season opens in your area. GOOD LUCK

Borumba Dam Tag-a-Long
1 Dec 2010
There is a Borumba Dam Tag-a-Long being organised for the weekend of 15th, 16th, and 17th of April 2011, that is open to all ANSA Clubs.
Accommodation plans will be up to you to organise but descriptions of available accommodation will be put here and on the ANSA Qld Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=169563113074518&num_event_invites=0#!/pages/ANSA-Queensland/101877629878640
Although this is a long way off, it does give everyone the opportunity to look at their diaries over the next couple of months, work out if they can come, and if they are interested. Wouldn't it be great if we could get something like this going, where we can fish and enjoy each others company, and get the intra club action going again! We realise it's a long way for some of the northern clubs, but if you're planning a trip down this way around Easter, why not leave a little earlier and join us for a weekend of catching Australian Bass, Golden Perch, Silver Perch Southern Saratoga, Mary River Cod,
Eel-tailed Catfish and Spangled Perch. A Stock Impoundment Permit is required. For those who like Red
Claw, the lake is also home to these crustaceans.

We will also be targeting the 20 to 40 year age bracket at the conference and throughout the next year or so, as these are our up and coming leaders and future State Exec. members. Miscommunication reduces Top Club species numbers
25 Oct 2010
The Bundaberg Sportfishing Club Inc. had been told verbally that all National Eligible Species could be entered in the Sawara Top Club Competition, but it was pointed out after they released their comprehensive list of species caught in 2009/10 on the ANSA Qld website, that this was not the case, and that only fish on the Queensland Eligible species list could be counted, although they could be caught anywhwere in Australian waters. After consultation, 8 species were removed fronm their list and a new Certificate issued for the revised total of 151 species. Those fish not included from the original list were: Barracouta, Brown and Rainbow Trout, Redfin Perch, Tommy Ruff, Leopard Shark, Little Jew, and Monocle Bream. All other fish have been confirmed.
This is a good learning experience for all, and as from next year all clubs lists will be put on the website for scrutiny by others, as this has not occurred in the past.

Summer State Titles affected by atrocious conditions
18 Oct 2010
This years Summer State Titles have been run and won, and the weather Gods certainly played the major part in the running of the competition. With atrocious conditions up and down the coast, ther was only a total of 25 anglers from 4 clubs that competed. Results are here and our congratulations must go to all who competed despite the conditions, and there was at least one winner from every Club that entered. Well done to all winners and participants, and let's hope for better conditions for next years Winter State Titles. Forms will be available for these shortly.
Well done to the new Events Coordinator, Terri Hanlon, for getting these results out and published in a timely manner.

Bundy Takes Out Top Club and wins the Sawara Service Trophy
22 Sep 2010
Bundaberg Sportfishing Club Inc. took out this year's Sawara Services Trophy for Top Club, with a staggering total of 159 species caught throughout the year. Even with a membership of over 100, this is still a mighty effort, and the complete list of species they caught can be seen by reading the Awards page. So for those who think it can't be done...have a look at the species and you'll find they're all catchable!
Elle Hodge (Weighmaster/Recorder) is a very hard taskmaster, and members know that they need to photograph all their captures for identification purposes. Her aim this year is for the Bundy SFC to get 170 species...so the challenge is out there for the other clubs now!!

Don has written a short article which you can read, and asks for these bits and pieces to be sent through to him for collation and eventual compiling into a book format. He has also agreed that they will be made available through the Members Only section of the website, and has included a link to his email address for those who can send through stories. Don't worry if you can't write like William Shakespeare, Dan Brown, or even Harold Robbins, as I'm sure Don will gladly edit the "rougher" stories to suit.
