SUMMARY:STATEWIDE SPECIES CHALLENGE
DESCRIPTION:The Statewide Species Challenge is an Annual Event Held over the May Long Weekend.\nRegistration: No formal registration is required and the event is FREE to all QLD Sportfishers members! \nAIM: \nThe QLD Sportfishers Species Challenge is an event that reflects the fundamental challenge of fishing\, that being the challenge of fisherman vs fish. The Challenge is instituted so that Anglers can join and fish together across Queensland over the same weekend. The only objective is catch as many different species from the QLD Sportfishers species list as possible in two days. \nThis is the perfect event for kids and anglers seeking to challenge themselves beyond the traditional “catch the biggest/most fish”. \nREGISTRATION: \nAll members of QLD Sportfishers are eligible to fish the challenge. Non-members may be granted temporary membership for the event but are required to pay a temporary membership fee. Contact QLD Sportfishers for more info. QLD Sportfishers Contacts \nBOUNDARYS: \nAll fishing is to be conducted in Queensland waters. \nHOURS OF EVENT: \nThe Challenge commences at 6:00am on the Saturday and concludes at 6:00pm Monday (entries to be completed by midnight Monday). \nTACKLE AND METHODS: \nAny sportfishing tackle and/or method that includes a fishing line may be utilised. \nNOTIFICATION OF CATCH: \nFish must be entered using the QLD Sportfishers online ENTRY FORM and must be submitted before the official finish time of the event. \nSCORING: \nAnglers receive one point for every different species they register during the challenge. Anglers need to get a quick photo of the fish (preferably with the angler) for identification. Anglers who wish to also be eligible for other QLD Sportfishers competitions must also provide a photo of their fish on an appropriate measuring device. Fish may be kept or released; all fish not meeting legal requirements must be release unharmed as quickly as possible. \nPHOTOGRAPHS: \nAll participants agree that any photos they provide may be used on social media updates for the event and in QLD Sportfishers promotional materials. \nELIGIBLE SPECIES: \nOnly those species listed on the QLD Sportfishers online Entry Form are eligible. To assist anglers a copy of the general QLD Sportfishers eligible species can be found at www.ansaqld.com.au/competitions/eligible-species-list \nPRESENTATION OF AWARDS: \nThe Challenge is essentially a social event and not a hard-fought competition. It is recognized however that those that meet the Challenge deserve recognition by their peers and so each category winner will receive a special Species Challenge commemorative lure; or an award of similar stature. \nThe major prize winner will walk away with a fantastic prize and will be selected by random draw from all participants who enter a fish during the challenge. \nAwards shall be for the following: \na) Individual Senior Male. \nb) Individual Senior Female. \nc) Individual Junior (10-16yrs) \nd) Individual Sub-Junior (<10yrs) \nOfficial notification of the winning anglers and clubs will be posted on the QLD Sportfishers website and/or Facebook page. \nPast winners of this event can be found on the Species Challenge Leaderboard page.\nFor further information cast a line to – \nMick King \n0409750677 \nkingsfour@bigpond.com

A total of 1\,911\,563 golden perch\, 57\,495 Murray cod and 94\,666 silver perch have been stocked in Glenlyon Dam from SIPS. The dam is well known for its big Murray cod. \nLocation\nGlenlyon Dam is located approximately an hours drive south west of Stanthorpe. The dam is popular for fishing with no vessel type restrictions occurring on the dam. Boats can be hired from the Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park. The tourist park also offers cabins\, powered sites and unpowered sites. The facilities at the park include toilets\, showers\, picnic tables\, barbeques\, playground and a kiosk with supplies. \nAccommodation\nSouthern Brisbane Sportfishing Club has 3 cabins booked for its members. Each will hold a maximum of 4 persons per cabin (I double and 3 high bunk beds. More realistically is 2-3 per cabin.  Each cabin is air conditioned with a small fridge\, 2 burner hot plate\, electric frypan\, jug and toaster.  The shower and toilet block is a short walk away. The cabins cost will be approx. $100.00 per night and a small upright freezer can be got for a nominal fee to store fillets.             www.glenlyondamtouristpark.com.au \nWhat to bring if you are going to stay in Cabins\nBedding – blankets\, sheets or sleeping bag and pillow \nUtensils – Plates\, cup\, knives\, forks and cooking utensils. \nFood and drinks – bring enough to last your stay as the nearest supplies are approximately 70 km away.  The store at the park sell basic items as well as bread\, fuel\, gas and ice.  They also stock a good selection of lures and selected fishing tackle.  For information on other items they stock ring (02) 6737 5266. \nPortable fridge or esky – For your drinks as the fridge is barely big enough for your food.  A power board is also helpful. \nGas BBQ – There is a wood fired BBQ available but a small gas BBQ would be an advantage. \nChair – Somewhere to park at night while socialising around the fire. \nClothes – Storms are active at this time of year at Glenlyon so do not forget your wet weather gear.  The night can become cool\, so a jacket will be handy and of course bring a towel and toiletries. \nDam Levels and Fishing\nThe club fished at about the same time in 2019 when the dam was down at 3-4% and it was still productive. The dam is now up over 10% so there is much more area to explore. \nFor more information have a chat to Ross Williamson on 0407 157 870 send him an email at ross@climaxaus.com\nSo make a trip of it and come for the weekend or a week and socialise with our club and others who come along.
