DESCRIPTION:GLENLYON DAM TAG-A-LONG \nHosted by Southern Brisbane Sportfish Club \n Friday 25th October to Friday 1st November 2019 \nTrip captain:  Tom Wallbank – 0412 759 332 \nGlenlyon Dam is located 3.5 hours from Brisbane and is a great camping and fishing location\, particularly for Murray Cod and Yellowbelly.  All ANSA QLD members are invited to tagalong on this social trip with Southern Brisbane SFC. \n  \nAccommodation at Glenlyon Dam Tourist Park  \n3 cabins have been booked which will hold 4 persons per cabin.  Each cabin is air conditioned with a small fridge\, 2 burner hot plate\, electric frypan\, jug and toaster.  Shower and toilet block are a short walk away. \nCost will be approx. $25.00 per person per night. \n  \nWhat to bring \nBedding – blankets\, sheets or sleeping bag and pillow \nUtensils – Plates\, cup\, knives\, forks and cooking utensils. \nFood and drinks – bring enough to last your stay as the nearest supplies are approximately 70 km away.  The store at the park sell basic items as well as fuel\, gas and ice.  They also stock a good selection of lures and selected fishing tackle.  For information on other items they stock ring (02) 6737 5266. \nPortable fridge or esky – For your drinks as the fridge is only big enough for your food.  A freezer will be supplied by the Club for keeping of fish fillets only. \nGas BBQ – There is a wood fired BBQ available\, but a small gas BBQ would be an advantage. \nChair – Somewhere to park at night while socialising around the fire. \nClothes – Storms are active at this time of year at Glenlyon so do not forget your wet weather gear.  The night can become cool\, so a jacket will be handy and of course bring a towel and toiletries. \n  \nFishing \nGlenlyon dam is well stocked with Golden Perch\, Silver Perch and Murray Cod and there is an endemic population of Eel tailed catfish and Spangled perch.  Glenlyon dam is rich in Boney bream and shrimp providing plenty of food for fish to grow rapidly.  All this makes Glenlyon a premier Golden perch and Murray cod fishery providing you with a good chance of tangling with a trophy Murray cod. \n  \nBait fishing \nTie up to a tree (if you have a good sounder you can look for a tree that is holding fish) and drop your line down about 15 feet and bob your bait up and down.  Sometimes fish can be holding shallower or deeper so try different depths.  If you do not have a bite in 20 mins. move to another tree.  Early morning and late afternoon before sundown are usually the best times. \n  \nBait \nLive shrimp is best\, so bring shrimp traps to set beside weed beds\, rock points or gullies in about 8-10 foot of water.  Frozen prawns and saltwater yabbies as well as garden worms work. If you bring salt water yabbies they must be frozen. \n  \nRods and reels \nA 2-4 kg rod with a 1500-2500 reel spooled with 8-10 lb mono or braided line will suffice.  A 10-15 lb trace about 300 ml long with No. 2 or 4 wide gap hook and small running sinker will complete your rig. \n  \n  \n  \nLure fishing-trolling \nLook for rocky points\, flats and timber that is close to creek beds.  Some of these locations may not be visible (sunken timber\, rocky out crops\, points at junctions of creeks) so keep a close eye on your sounder to find such locations.  As a rule of thumb\, troll in about 15 ft\, this usually keeps you outside the weed line.  Sometimes it pays to vary the depth as fish can be found in shallower or deeper water.  The best speed to troll is as slow as you can.  It doesn’t hurt to have your lure bang into structure occasionally as this may alert the fish.  Probably the best tip I can give you concerning trolling is to check trace and line regularly as fraying can occur from the line and trace dragging over structure.  If you see any damage no matter how slight\, replace it\, as large Cod will find any weakness in your rigging. \n  \nCasting \nSimilar locations as for trolling.  Cast to large standing trees in various depths.  If using spinnerbaits cast close to the shady side of the tree and let your bait drop to about 15 ft before slowly retrieving.  Make sure you engage the drag as Cod will often strike on the drop. Put in at least 6 casts before moving on to the next tree.  Most cases if a fish is there he will strike on the first or second cast.  Set your drag a little tighter than you would for trolling as you need to stop Cod from taking you into the timber.  Swim baits can be used the same way as spinnerbaits.  Diving hard bodied lures can also be used but cast past the tree so the lure is at the required depth as it passes.  Surface lures are effective during early morning and late afternoon\, either side of sundown.  They have an advantage over other lures when targeting shallow water around weed beds.  Retrieve the lure over gaps and edges of the weed. \n  \nRods reeds and lines \nI usually have 2 rigs when fishing Glenlyon dam.  The first is a 2-5 kg baitcaster spooled with 10 lb braid with 6 ft of 20 lb fluro carbon leader which I use for trolling small lures for Golden perch.  The lighter line has less drag therefore giving the smaller lure more action.  Big Cod will take small lures.  This rig will handle large Cod as long as you are in reasonably clean country.  Otherwise if fishing heavy structure or using large lures\, I will use 5-8 kg baitcaster spooled with 20 lb braid with 6 ft of 30 lb fluro carbon trace.  I also use this for casting spinnerbaits.  Spin outfits will do the job.  However a baitcaster will give accuracy when casting and when casting from a boat there will be no need for long casts. \n  \nLures \nLook in 10 anglers tackle boxes and each will have a different assortment of lures that catch fish\, but as a starter lures like Oar Gee\, Darts and Boomerangs or lures similar work well.  Generally lures with a tighter action are used for targeting Golden perch and a wider action for Cod.  However both actions can catch both species. \n  \nLength wise I use lures in the 55-110 mm range\, mostly 75-80 mm as this provides an each way bet – not too big for Goldens and not too small for Cod.  However the saying ‘Big lures big fish’ applies to Cod as well.  Hard bodied lures up to 250 mm and spinnerbaits 2-2  oz are used\, but you will need to up the rate of rod and line to use these. \n  \nColour is a personal preference.  The general rule is dark colours early morning\, late afternoon and coloured water and bright colours for clear water when the sun is high.  The popular colours are black\, purple\, red/black\, greens\, fluros\, orange\, yellow and pink\, or combinations of above. \n  \nTight lines and happy fishing \n

DESCRIPTION:WELCOME TO THE SUNSHINE COAST \nThe Sunshine Coast is a fantastic place to visit with beautiful sandy beaches and tourist attractions that suit the entire family. Our event will be based at Waterfront Hotel near the Maroochy River. Although the river is heavily fished\, the estuary produces many species. Offshore enthusiasts are blessed with an abundance of close reef within 4km of the shoreline. \nFriday 4th \nMeet and Greet will start at 5.30pm at Waterfront Hotel\, 2/46 David Low Way\, Maroochydore. During this time there will be a briefing for the weekend’s fishing competition and capture sheets will be distributed. Guests who wish to dine are to order and pay for their own meals. Please buy your own drinks. \nSaturday 5th \nFishing will commence at 5.30am and finish at 3pm Saturday. After the day’s fishing\, guests can relax\, shower and by 5.30pm make their way to Waterfront Hotel for the start of the evening presentation and roast dinner. Dinner will be provided to all registered participants. Please buy your own drinks. ANSA Qld’s annual presentations will commence after dinner. The evening will end around 10pm. \nSunday 6th \nFishing will commence at 6.00am and finish at 11am. Competitors are asked to be at the Waterfront Hotel by 12.30pm for a pie and hotdog lunch. Lunch will be provided to all registered participants. Please buy your own drinks. Competitors must submit their capture sheet at Waterfront Hotel by 12.30pm. Once all capture sheets have been collected and collated\, there will be a presentation. The ANSA Qld AGM will follow lunch and the Fishing Festival will be closed. \nMonday 7th (Queen’s Birthday Holiday) Visitors have the day free to enjoy the Sunshine Coast and make their way home. \nACCOMMODATION \nThere is plenty of accommodation on the Sunshine Coast\, however as it will be the Queen’s Birthday long weekend\, places will fill quickly. \nWaterfront Hotel (Ph. 54582777). SUMMARY:The 39th TOWNSVILLE SPORTFISHING CHALLENGE
DESCRIPTION:The 39th Townsville Sportfishing Challenge is to be held in the Townsville district waters on the weekend of 6\, 7 and 8 of September 2019. \nThe Townsville Sportfishing Challenge is an invitation only competition open to all members of Australian National Sportfishing Association (ANSA) affiliated clubs in Queensland. \nBoundaries\nThe boundaries shall be a line drawn East/West from the Northern tip of Great Palm and a line drawn East from the Northern tip of Cape Bowling Green\, with no Eastern or Western boundaries.  This extends to all estuaries that flow into the coast within these boundaries. \nTimings\nThe Townsville Sportfishing Challenge 2019 is operated over a three day period.  Fishing commences at 6:00p.m. Friday 6 September 2019 and ceases at 12 Noon on Sunday 8 September 2019. \nFish caught outside these timings are considered ineligible and it is the responsibility of the individual to monitor these timings. \nThe weigh-in be held at 4 Dali Court\, Heatley and will commence at 1.00pm on the Sunday or as close to this as practicable\, however all fish are to be in the weigh-in area no later than 12.45pm. \nIt is expected the presentation will commence at approximately 3.00 – 3.30pm on the Sunday afternoon or sooner if able however this will be entirely dependent on the number of competitors fishing. \nTides\nThe tides stated for the weekend of the Challenge are as follows: \n\n\n\nFriday 6 September 2019\nSaturday 7 September 2019\nSunday 8 September 2019\n\n\nHeight              Time     \nHeight              Time     \nHeight              Time \n\n\n2.18m                0352\n2.27m                 0524\n1.05m                  0048\n\n\n1.10m                1032\n0.96m                  1138\n2.39m                  0615\n\n\n2.89m                1728\n3.11m                  1818\n0.85m                  1227\n\n\n1.26                  2357\n\n3.25m                   1858\n\n\n\nRules\n1.The rules for the 2019 Challenge are in line with the rules applicable to Divisions 1 and 2 of ANSA QLD Handbook March 2012 (12th Edition).   All eligible species are included on the attached list. The divisions are: \nDivision 1 Sportfishing Division (1kg\, 2kg\, 3kg\, 4kg\, 6kg\, 8kg\, 10kg & 15kg) \nDivision 2 Lurefishing Division (1kg\, 2kg\, 3kg\, 4kg\, 6kg\, 8kg\, 10kg & 15kg) \n2. All fish are to be presented to the Weighmaster and assistants in preparation for weighing and Measuring and the Weighmasters decision is final if a fish is ineligible. Facilities are available for checking length and species prior to weighing of fish and it is the responsibility of each angler to ensure that fish are presented in accordance with the fishing rules. \n3.If a nominated angler is unable to attend the weigh-in due to work commitments or unforeseen circumstances then that angler can nominate another member from his or her team to weigh In his or her fish. If this is the case then the respective Club Captain is to inform the Weighmaster prior to the commencement of the weigh-in. \n4.All fish are to be correctly gutted and gilled prior to presentation to the Weighmaster as there are no facilities at the weigh-in site. On the weigh-in form fish are to be nominated if caught in estuary or bluewater and if captured by lurefishing . \n5.The maximum number of fish to be weighed-in per competitor is five with no more than two of any one species. \n6.To be eligible for team trophies\, two members of senior teams must present fish to the Weighmaster. Junior and Sub Juniors are exempt from this rule\, however a minimum of two must nominate in Junior and Sub Junior teams \nDisqualification\nAn angler will be disqualified if they present to the Weighmaster any fish that is not fresh\, gilled or gutted.   Anglers will also be disqualified if any fish presented are under the minimum length as per the Townsville Challenge Species List. \nFees and Charges\nThe fees for competing in the Townsville Sportfishing Challenge for 2018 are as follows: \nSenior Adult                  $10.00 \nJuniors                          $  5.00 (10 Years old and not reached the age of 16) \nSub Junior                    $  3.00 (hasn’t reached the age of 10 years old) \nNominations\nNominations are to be presented in team formation to the Committee Secretary by 8pm on the night of the 30 August 2019 using the attached nomination form\, therefore unfortunately late nominations or amendments will not be accepted. \nPayment of Fees\nNomination fees are to be paid by cheque prior to the closure of nominations on the 30 August 2019.   All cheques are to be made payable to; \n“Townsville Sportfishing Challenge” \nand addressed to the; \nTownsville Challenge Committee 2018 C/- P O Box 1623 \nAitkenvale Qld 4814 \n Catering and Refreshments\nThe Townsville Saltwater Sportsman’s Club will have food and refreshments for sale from approximately 12:30pm.  All proceeds will be going to the hosting club. \nRaffles\nThe Townsville Sportfishing Challenge Committee has endeavoured to minimise the cost of competing in the Challenge this year so it is hoped that the raffles will be well supported. Tickets will be on sale at the weigh-in. \n  \nAwards Classification \nWinchcombe Carson Shield  – (Champion Club)\n The highest score derived from the ten (10) highest point scoring fish weighed in per club\, with a  maximum of two (2) fish per any one species. \n  \nTownsville Inter – Club Sportfishing Challenge Shield – (Army Shield)            \nThe ten (10) highest points scoring anglers for each club (Townsville clubs only). \n  \nChampion Visiting Club            \nHighest aggregate score. DESCRIPTION:To date there has been over 1200 selected fish tagged against our 15 active Monitoring Tagging Plans throughout Queensland. This is a great achievement by all involved in this tagging program with results reaching high levels. \nSo as to continue on our efforts to collect detailed data from the selected species and areas on the active monitoring plans we are encouraging all members to either increase their tagging efforts or even better we are encouraging new taggers from our current membership to come on board and join in. \nAs from the end of July a specially designed “Pink Lure” – one of only 30 crafted – will be delivered to a member\, by random lucky draw\, that tags at least 2 fish from any approved monitoring plan within each month. Members will only be eligible for the winning of 1 lure each 6-month period during this promotion\, however we encourage all members to continue to grow their efforts in tagging if they have been successful. \nThe ANSA Qld Tagging and Research Officer will be responsible for the drawing of this promotion with his decision being final. \nGood luck to everyone with the hope that you are lucky enough to win one of these Elite Pink ANSA Lures.

DESCRIPTION:Annual Tag-a-Long Expedition. In 2018 the expedition will be a road trip from Cairns to Cape York\, with fishing and activities along the way. The trip will include four legs and people can join in for all or part of the expedition as their time and interest allows. \nThis is a self sufficient tag-along event. Accommodation options and itinerary will be provided in the near future with members responsible for their own costs\, food\, bookings and individual plans. \nDeparts from Cairns on Tuesday morning 5th June and concludes Mossman/Daintree on Tuesday 3rd July 2018.\nThere are 4 stages.\nSTAGE 1: 5th – 13th June. 		Weipa & the Weipa Fishing Classic\nSTAGE 2: 14th – 21st June. 		The Tip of Cape York.\nSTAGE 3: 22nd -28th June.  		Chilli Beach & Lakefield \nThis is a totally self sufficient tag along tour.\nThere are hundreds of kilometres of gravel roads in this trip. A Four Wheel Drive is required. Boats will be towed and so roads selected for this tour will cater for boats in tow rather than hard core off-roading. Boat trailers need to be suitable for the conditions and a selection of spare parts is to be carried.\nOpen to all ANSA QLD members. \nMore Details to come!
