The next Generation of Taggers go hands on at the Boyne Tannum Hookup

On Saturday my dad took my family and I down to the Boyne TagginTannum Hookup. We looked around at the stalls, mainly mum and I liked the half cabin reef boats. We watched some of the Yamaha super tank show and I learnt more about how to use the fizzer. There are some tricks on how to tempt the Barramundi out of the structure. We then went and looked at the tagged fish in the release tanks. There were some really big Grunter and Mangrove Jack in the big tank they had set up in the trailer. Then we all (the family) went and had some lunch before heading over to where the club were tagging fish. First I looked at how they tagged and where they put the tag in the fish, then I tried it myself. Olly and Andrew Sullivan showed me how to tag the fish. The first fish I tagged was a yellow fin bream. There were some feisty fish, mainly the bream. It was fun when we let the fish go down at the ramp. Lots of people came down to the ramp to let the fish go. It was crazy.

I’m glad I went to the Hookup and can’t wait to catch some fish of my own to tag and release. I might get the chance this week if the rain clears and we get to go to Station Point to see Jet and Jimmy.

President follow up note:

Even though I wasn't able to help out the Gladstone Sport Fishing Club with running the live fish categories at the recent Boyne Tannum Hook-Up fishing competition due to work commitments in the United States,it pleases me no end to see one of our "newest", juniour members get involved & enjoy the experience. Young Tayla's story is worth sharing........very much ANSA & also sheds some insight in how our youth contribute towards fishing today for tomorrow.

Thanks  Tayla.
