NORTH QUEENSLAND SPORTFISHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
9th and 10th June 2007
The Hinchinbrook region will again be the backdrop for this year’s North Queensland Sportfishing Championships. The location takes advantage of the wide-ranging fishing environments and a centralized location in the north. This year celebrates the first unofficial event held in 1971 when a few anglers met at Cardwell to trial a fishing competition. The trial was a success and led to the first formal event in 1973 and the competition has been held annually at Cardwell over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend since then.
Fished under ANSA rules, anglers are able to fish from Clump Point, Mission Beach in the north to Lucinda Jetty in the south with no east/west boundaries, including the pristine Hinchinbrook Channel, the Great Barrier Reef and all unprotected fresh and saltwaters within.
The competition begins at 6am on Saturday 9th June and culminates with a weigh-in at the Cardwell Sportfishing Club clubhouse at 12.45pm on Sunday 10th June. Sunday night sees all anglers and their families get together for the Trophy Presentation and a BBQ dinner at the Cardwell Community Hall.
