The 2007 Col Kinbacher Competition  Kingaroy Club Logo

For new members or people from other clubs wishing to attend here is a history of the competition. Col Kinbacher was a member of the Maryborough Sportfishing Club. When he passed away it was decided to run a Wide Bay Zone competition in his honour. The Wide Bay Zone clubs were Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Bundaberg with Kingaroy and Rainbow Beach joining the Zone later. Rainbow Beach only existed for a couple of members to tag offshore and Hervey Bay has now folded. The Zones no longer function under ANSA like they used to, Wide Bay being the only functioning one in existence as far as we can tell. The competition is to be held on the May Day long weekend every year with the weigh-in rotating between the Zone clubs. This year it is Kingaroy’s turn.

The competition works like this. You can fish from the Friday night at midnight (12:01 a.m. Saturday) to midnight Sunday similar to State Titles rules in Division 1. Nothing is stopping you fishing Monday morning but obviously any of those fish caught then can’t count in the competition. Your fish are weighed and points worked out similar to State Titles. Each species of fish you then weigh-in up to a maximum of 5 is then worth a bonus 500 points. Realistically you will need to catch 5 good fish for the weekend all of a different species to do well. The five fish alone will give you 2,500 points to start with. Your points on top of the 2,500 will then be what your fish weigh and their fighting factor as per the ANSA system. The person with the most points is then the Col Kinbacher Weekend Champion. They can be Junior or Senior, Male or Female. The best angler on the weekend keeps the perpetual trophy for the year. It is then up to their club to return the trophy to the following years weigh-in for the new recipient to receive it.
There are no prizes just the honour of winning.

The weigh-in for the Col Kinbacher Competition on the May Day Monday (7th May 2007) commencing 12:01 p.m. at the Dingo Ck Park Wondai. This park is on the Burnett Highway on the Murgon side of Wondai. Going via Wondai will not be much of a detour heading south from Bundaberg, and will make a change from the same old drive down the Bruce Highway.
